In the very early hours of Monday morning I quietl

In the very early hours of Monday morning I quietly supported a now third time mom with her first VBAC freebirth. This is not her in the pic, this is my sister @louisetredger who kindly gave me permission ❤️ The mom from Monday morning is orthodox Muslim and fiercely private. Now some may call me outrageous to take on a doula client while I have a 3 month old baby that is currently in the middle of two eye surgeries - that same thought had crossed my mind lol. But when she got hold of me I just this overwhelming sense that I HAD to help her - because everyone deserves the birth of their dreams. Of course she could’ve done it without me but her hubby was insisting on atleast some assistance, otherwise she had to go to the hospital. And she was SO determined to do this! Even in the midst of the most traumatic month of my life, I had an incredible sense of peace when I thought of her birth - I kept thinking ‘things will work out’, and they could not have worked out better… She went into labour on the weekend between my daughters two surgeries and my daughter slept through all of it downstairs in the car with dad - just, amazing. I think when two women are so willing for the same outcome, and so determined to make it happen, life has no choice but to deliver ❤️ Her labour was slow but steady and she seemed to ease that baby out ever so gently. Baby was grateful, you could see. I feel like this marks the beginning of something amazing 🤩 … quiet, hands off support for freebirthers… gah, I’m excited. But, I’ll wait for my own baby to be a bit bigger first ❤️

Aletha Solter’s new book, a gift from my sister @louisetredger 🥰 She knows how much this sweethearts eye surgeries are playing on my mind and heart as I worry about the trauma. Aware Parenting is a trauma informed approach to parenting, both preventive and reparative 🥰. I’m so grateful to know that all trauma little Baby M is experiencing can be healed ❤️ (She’s currently fascinated by her hands as she has a bit of sight in her right eye after her first surgery 😍)

Big sis loving on baby M 💜 Love in this house has had to change how it’s shown. Baby M with her low vision loves touch most of all, still getting frights easily with big sounds. She loves it when I get up right in her face, forehead to forehead and say hi - that’s when I get the biggest giggles. And she loves to hold my hand. Eye surgery is confirmed for Monday, they’ll do the one eye and then the next two weeks later if all goes well. We can’t wait for you to see us sweetheart ❤️

My starry eyed girl 🌌 Little baby M has been diagnosed with congenital cataracts in both eyes. Meaning she needs to have surgery to remove her cloudy lenses and then will need lens implants. She goes in for the first surgery on the 3rd October and the second eye will be done about 2 weeks later. The rush to have it done so soon is because of the risk that the brain will ‘switch off’ vision pathways if it believes the eye does not work. You bet I am doing ALL the research and have already emailed a zillion questions to the ophthalmologist since our last appointment. Send this baby girl prayers, thoughts & healing, these will not be her last surgeries and it’s a long road ahead of us to restore her vision. This pic was taken after she was given eye drops to dilate her pupils, making the cataract easy to see in the eye the light is hitting (I added the stars, because it looks like she’s holding whole galaxies in there ✨)
