Our sweet Dona, my sons best friend who has been w

Our sweet Dona, my sons best friend who has been with us for his whole life, passed away naturally and peacefully today of old age. This dog was an angel on four legs and will be sorely missed. What a big life change for my children to go through. We buried her in the garden and held a little ceremony, I’m so proud of how in touch my children are with their grief and with death.

Yay for lazy sleepy rainy Sundays reading epics 🥰 This is such a crazy busy season of life I’m in with a preteen and a baby and one in between. And it’s amazing to just take an out breath now that baby M’s surgeries are done (for now) and everything has mostly settled into domestic bliss again ☯️ Nothing except the absolutely essential (feeding people) getting done today ✌️

When I first became a mom over a decade ago, I wasn’t working at the time, and my then husband was still finishing up his studies. So I cashed in a small investment I had to buy all the baby essentials I was convinced I needed. You know; a pram, a high tech baby monitor, a breast pump. Being a bit addicted to buying books, I got a few of those as well.

One of them probably changed the course of my life. I must have had some deep need showing up from my own babyhood, or perhaps it was indicative of the lack of connection in the doomed marriage I was in. Either way, I thought it was imperative that I learned how to massage my baby.

I bought the only book I could find on the topic: Baby Massage for Dummies by Joanne Bagshaw and Ilene Fox, and what a gem it turned out to be! I didn’t have very high expectations, I mean it was a ‘for Dummies’ series book after all, but it was clear and easy to follow and indeed taught me how to massage by baby.

Even more importantly, it was in this book that I was first introduced to the term Attachment Parenting. And it was this book that affirmed my own need to carry and wear my baby. And that babies cannot be spoilt with love.

There is so much conflicting information out there when you first become a mom. And it’s just so hard to follow your own intuition when you’re so new to it all.

I remember my own mom saying that a baby should not be held too much, that their little bodies get sore. Which is something that her mom had told her, and it was affirmed for her by little baby me being hysterical at the end of a day of being at a function where I was passed around and held by a lot of different people…

In the very early hours of Monday morning I quietl

In the very early hours of Monday morning I quietly supported a now third time mom with her first VBAC freebirth. This is not her in the pic, this is my sister @louisetredger who kindly gave me permission ❤️ The mom from Monday morning is orthodox Muslim and fiercely private. Now some may call me outrageous to take on a doula client while I have a 3 month old baby that is currently in the middle of two eye surgeries - that same thought had crossed my mind lol. But when she got hold of me I just this overwhelming sense that I HAD to help her - because everyone deserves the birth of their dreams. Of course she could’ve done it without me but her hubby was insisting on atleast some assistance, otherwise she had to go to the hospital. And she was SO determined to do this! Even in the midst of the most traumatic month of my life, I had an incredible sense of peace when I thought of her birth - I kept thinking ‘things will work out’, and they could not have worked out better… She went into labour on the weekend between my daughters two surgeries and my daughter slept through all of it downstairs in the car with dad - just, amazing. I think when two women are so willing for the same outcome, and so determined to make it happen, life has no choice but to deliver ❤️ Her labour was slow but steady and she seemed to ease that baby out ever so gently. Baby was grateful, you could see. I feel like this marks the beginning of something amazing 🤩 … quiet, hands off support for freebirthers… gah, I’m excited. But, I’ll wait for my own baby to be a bit bigger first ❤️
